St Mel Church

St Mel Catholic Church was constructed in 1968 in what was then a suburb of Norco, CA. The church site was created over an old horse Rodeo grounds in the middle of horse country USA. The church was expanded to include a K-6 elementary school, but the school was closed down after a time.   The church was dedicated in 1968 by Bishop Furey and Bishop Quinn.   Fr. J. Earnest Hayes assumed the duties of pastor in 1974.   Over the years there were several assignments of pastors, and the current pastor is shown on the home page.

In 2017, the church grounds was improved in a major scale beautification project which includes state of the art pavers, a new fountain in front, colorful trees, an arbor with trees for quiet meditation, a beautiful garden dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a grotto in front dedicated to the unborn. In 2018, the church was chosen by the city of Norco to be the most beautiful church for worship in town.

St Mel Catholic Church in Norco is a very friendly open church away from the din of the main traffic area of town where one can come worship in private and enjoy the quiet and beautiful scenery in the middle of horse town USA.
